HAZARD — The members of the Community Collaboration for Children (CCC) Regional Network held its annual conference on Tuesday at Hazard Community and Technical College.
The goal of this training was to provide education and community awareness of child abuse. This year there were 160 individuals present from across the region for this training. During the conference, the CCC Network presented its Child Abuse Awareness awards, Child Abuse Poster Contest winners, and the KY River Runs Blue contest winners.
The CCC child Abuse Awareness Awards were presented in a variety of categories for individuals who have gone above and beyond in their field. This year the awards were presented to Vana Francis for social work, Cora Stacy for volunteer, Sherry Lanham for Family Resource Center Director, and Melissa Smith for teacher.
Poster contest winners were: First-third grade category, Katie Phillips-Lee County and Macie Moore-Perry County; fourth-sixth grade category Rae Ann Blair-Perry County and McKenzie Evans-Lee County.
The KY River Runs Blue contest is a contest held by the CCC Regional Network in the eight Kentucky River Area Development District (KRADD) counties for agencies, businesses, and schools to submit pictures of their decorations to create awareness of child abuse. This year the recipients were in the school category were Wolf County schools for Family Resource and Youth Service Centers, Lee Count schools for Family Resource Center, and Perry County schools for the Chavies Family Resource Center and the Perry County Central High School. In the agency category, Perry County Protection and Permanency Office and Leslie county Cooperative Extension Office were recipients. Primary Care Centers of Eastern Kentucky won in the business category.
