Vernie “Tootie” Halcomb, 72, died Thursday, June 20 at the hospice care center in Hazard.
She was born on Febr. 3, 1941, to the late Spencer and Delcia Caudill in Viper. Other than her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Damon Halcomb, son Tim Halcomb, and four sisters and one brother.
She is survived by her son, Roy Halcomb and wife Sandy of Cornettsville; daughters Sandra Mize and husband Tim Osborne, and Tracy Simpson and husband Keith of Cornettsville; brother Vincent Coy Caudill of Atlanta, Georgia; and sisters Lizzie Halcomb of Slemp, Judy Gibson of Viper, Francis Halcomb of Georgia, and Lois Jean Coots of Viper;
She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Wayne, Sonya, Mikey, Jessica, Sarah, Makenzie, and Kameron; three great-grandchildren: Whitney, Brandon, and Dalton; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Arrangements were handled by Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard. Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 23 at the Slemp Church of the Lord Jesus Christ located at Puncheon Camp. Burial took place at the Arch Halcomb Cemetery located at Little Leatherwood.
