The Hazard-Perry little league is experiencing a youth movement this year, and as a result they had to split their 9- and 10-year-old team into two squads. On Saturday, the 9-year-olds opened the little league all-star tournament with the 9- and 10-year-olds from Tri-City.

Hazard-Perry started the game strong, crossing the plate four times in the first inning. Hazard-Perry had but one hit in the frame (Gavin Clutts), and scored all three runs on wild pitches.

Hazard-Perry tacked on another run in the second inning, giving them the 5-0 lead. Andrew Combs opened the rally with a triple, and later scored on a wild pitch.

Tri-City was able to pick up a run in the third inning, but it was negated by Hazard-Perry’s two runs (7-1). Gavin Clutts would score his second run of the game after receiving a walk. Matt Goins brought Clutts home with a single, and would later score on a hit by Hank Pelfrey.

Hazard-Perry went up 8-1 in the fourth inning. Andrew Combs scored his third run of the game, using a walk and a stolen base to score on a Mason McAlarnis double.

Tri-City tried to rally in the fifth inning, but was cut short at two runs (8-3). Hazard-Perry showed their opponent what a rally should look like as they ended the game early with a five-run rally. Andrew Combs scored his fourth run of the night, while Mason McAlarnis got the hit that brought the game to an end. Hazard-Perry continued in the championship bracket with the 13-3 win.

Hazard-Perry (13) Wyatt Hensley 1 run, Andrew Combs 2 hits and 4 runs, Logan Thomas 1 hit and 2 runs, Mason McAlarnis 2 hits and 1 run, Gavin Clutts 1 hit and 2 runs, Max Johnson 1 run, Jayden Bailey 1 run, Matt Goins 1 hit and 1 run, Hank Pelfrey 2 hits and Nick Whitaker 1 run.

Tri-City (3) Tye Howard 1 run, Josh Whitehead 2 hits and 1 run, Chase Gladsen 1 hit, Chandler Smith 1 hit, Justin Moyer 1 hit and Josh Swanner 1 run.
