Baker inducted as a Kentucky Colonel
by Jason Alderman
Bill Baker was inducted as a Kentucky Colonel Saturday, June 29 by Brandon Smith, senator and Majority Whip of the Kentucky Senate.
Mr. Baker and his lovely wife, Charlene Napier Baker, were also bestowed the titles of Duke and Duchess of Hazard for their years of charity work and participation in feeding the homeless and helping those less fortunate.
Bill and his family reside in Bristol, Connecticut. He was under the impression that he was traveling to his beloved mountain home of Hazard for a family reunion. Little did he know that the gathering was a surprise 85th birthday party that his wife and daughters had been planning for months. Bill was truly surprised by the multitude of family and friends that gathered to show their love and respect to this kind-hearted fellow that does for others before himself.
Bill was born the son of an Appalachian preacher and has carried on the tradition of being concerned for your neighbors and showing everyone true mountain hospitality where ever he may be.
