Byron D. Walters, 77, of Hazard, passed away Monday, July 1, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.
He was born March 25, 1936, in Perry County, the son of the late C.D. Walters and the late Amanda Adams Walters. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny Walters and Hobart Combs, and three sisters, Cora Bates, Charlene Back, and Elizabeth Reece.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Wells Walters; daughter Denise Walters Adams and husband Keith of Whitesburg; grandchildren Travis Logan of Nicholasville, Kira Logan of Hazard, and Brent Adams of Whitesburg; great-grandchildren Autumn Francis and Kameron Wallace of Hazard, Kayleigh Logan of Nicholasville, and Nevaeh Adams of Whitesburg; and a special niece, Sharon Trent of Hazard. A host of other relatives and friends also survive.
Byron was a member of Lothair Community Church where he had served as clerk of the session and treasurer. He was a devoted Christian and family man as well as a talented published author of three books. He was a retiree of Kentucky Power Company and after his retirement he enjoyed playing golf and writing.
He was also a member of the Hazard Masonic Lodge and Hazard Shrine Club.
A memorial Service will be held at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel of Hazard on Wednesday, July 3 at 7 p.m. with Dana Feltner officiating. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m.
