HAZARD – Residents and motorists in downtown Hazard continue to await the completion of the Home Lumber bridge replacement project on Main Street, and in the coming weeks a second bridge project will be underway inside city limits.

Bush & Burchett, Inc. was awarded the contract to replace the existing bridge at Woodland Park near East Main Street on June 12, according to H.B. Elkins with the Kentucky Transportation’s highway department office in Jackson. The company submitted the winning bid for the project at $2,655,029.

The bridge currently connecting Woodland Park with East Main Street is a one lane bridge. The new span is expected to add another lane of traffic.

Elkins noted that a start date hasn’t been announced for the project yet, but he expects the new bridge to be in place and operational by this time next year.
