Strong second half gives Commodores a win

The Perry County Central Commodores hosted the Leslie County Eagles for senior night. The Commodores fell behind early and had to put together a strong second half to pull out the big win.
The Commodores got on the board first. With eight minutes remaining, Darryl Beatty grabbed a 40-yard pass from Jordan Amis. Anthony Brashear added the extra-point for the 7-0 lead.
The Eagles countered with a touchdown with 1:23 remaining in the period. Lance Coots carried the ball over for the Leslie County score. Cody Hensley hooked up with Wade Napier for the 2-pt. conversion, and the 8-7 lead.
With only a few seconds gone in the second quarter, Perry Central struck again. Darryl Beatty caught his second touchdown of the night. This time from three yards out. The conversion was no good, setting the score at 13-8.
The Commodores success did not last long as the Eagles went to the air. With 7:53 on the clock, Wade Napier hooked up with Cody Hensley on a 37-yard pass play. The 2-pt. conversion was caught by Blake Blay, giving Leslie County the 16-13 advantage with time running out in the half.
Perry Central got busy in the closing moments, collecting two touchdowns before the half. The Commodores took the lead (21-16) on a 57-yard Jordan Amis run to the end zone (Chance Ashworth caught the conversion).
After Chance Ashworth picked up an interception, Perry Central was looking to score again before the break. The score came with 41 seconds left as Jordan Amis hit Jay White on a 32-yard route. The Commodores went into the locker room with the 27-16 lead.
On the first play of the third period, Jordan Amis hit Brian Rankin on a pass that covered 65-yards (33-16). The play set the tone for the rest of the game.
With nine seconds remaining in the period, Jordan Amis picked up another touchdown pass as he hit Chance Ashworth over the middle. Ashworth reversed his field and rambled 33 yards through the Leslie County defense for the touchdown. Anthony Brashear added the extra point, sending Perry Central to the final period with the 40-16 lead.
Early in the fourth quarter, Jordan Amis came out from under center and could not find an open receiver. Amis then tucked the ball and ran 42 yards down the left sideline for the touchdown (46-16).
The Commodores closed out their scoring with an 11-yard run by Brian Rankin. Anthony Brashear added the extra point, setting the final tally at 53-16.
The win set Perry Centrals regular season record at 7-3. The Commodores will travel to Pulaski County for the playoffs on Friday.
