Oh happy days, it’s a beautiful day

Recently a report on our local TV station gave me cause to be angry, perplexed, disappointed, and motivated to write a letter setting the record straight.

This so-called expose about Hazard and Perry County being the saddest place in America! The entire coverage was ludicrous beyond the realm of truth. It had no validity. I think God that He directed my path to Hazard and Perry County 48 years ago. These have been the happiest and most successful and momentous times of my life.

Before coming to these beautiful, wonderful mountains, I had traveled in over 40 states and three foreign countries, and I know people here are the happiest, most beautiful, most loving people on earth.

There are more people in Hazard and Perry County that I admire, respect, and love dearly than would fill volumes or priceless manuscripts. So, to every man, woman, and child in Hazard and Perry County, please accept my undying love. May God bless us all.

I think it would be wise to be able to distinguish between being told the truth and attacking any stereotyping being done. Truth is that like with anywhere in the world, Hazard and Perry County has it issues and problems. Acknowledge them and address them instead of denying them and bragging about how wonderful it is and make it an even better place to live.
