Dr. Sandlin had been Primary Care Physician at the Leatherwood-Blackey Medical Clinic at Cornettsville, Ky. for approximately 20 years. He had practiced medicine since 1978, coming home to Perry County as soon as he completed his medical training at the University of Louisville to serve the people of Eastern Kentucky. Dr. Sandlin also served as a Community Medical Associate for several years at Mountain Community Hospice.
Survivors include his wife, Terri Campbell Sandlin of Delphia, Ky.; one daughter Lynna Danielle Sandlin of Georgetown, Ky.; his mother and step-father Eileen and James Ingram of Jackson, Ky.; two sisters and brothers-in-laws, Katheryn S. and Jerry Lee Burns of Lexington, Ky., and Leila S. Smith and Robert D. Smith of Jackson Ky.; sister-in-law Donna Sue Sandlin of Frankfort, Ky.; and his little dog Satchmo. He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Nunnley Sandlin; father, Steve Sandlin, Jr.; and his brother Charles H. Sandlin.
Funeral services were Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel in Hazard, Ky. with EG Clark officiating. Burial was at the York-Wooton cemetery, Buckhorn, Ky..
Active pallbearers were Brain Adams, Donnie Jack Begley, Dubbie Brashear, Stanley Caudill, Mark Fields, Walter James Harris, Bruce Stamper, Darraugh Wooton, Dennis Pat Wooton, and Patrick Wooton.
Honorary pallbearers were staff of the Leatherwood-Blackey Medical Clinic, Dr. Greg Culley, William Engle III, Frank Allen Fletcher, John Frank Gross, Fess Halcomb, and Dr. Roy Varghese.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mountain Community Hospice. Maggard’s Mountain View Funeral Home in Hazard was in charge of arrangements.
