Thelma Williams, also know as the banjo pickin’ granny of WLJC out of Beattyville, departed this life on Tuesday, January 26 at her residence in Lynn Fork at Slemp. She was 93 years of age at the time of her passing.

She was born in Perry County, the daughter of the late Green A. Cornett and the late Cassie Couch Cornett. She was a life long resident of Perry County and was a member of the Lynn Fork Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

She enjoyed music, fishing, gardening, her family, and her dog, Scooter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gordon Williams; daughter Cleressa Coots; brothers Colson, Harlan, and Dalton Cornett; and sisters Nancy Bradley, Maggie Osborne, and Allie Cornett.

She is survived by sons Howard Williams and wife Carol of Viper, Raleigh Williams and wife Sue of Cumberland, and Harold Dean Williams and wife Dena of Corbin; daughters Margie Hooker and husband Marshall of Slemp, Justine Bowling and husband Gary of Slemp, Alcine Neace and husband Jeff of Slemp, and Kathleen Lewis and husband Jerry of Slemp; brothers Corbin, Marlin, and Luther Cornett, all of Slemp; and sister Lethe Griffith of Hazard. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild and a host of numerous other family and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 28 at the Big Leatherwood First Baptist Church at Delphia with Rev. Jerry Lewis officiating. The burial followed in the Williams Family Cemetery located at Lynn Fork.

Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard was in charge of arrangements.
