He was born in Hazard, the son of the late Carl Campbell and Norma Collins Campbell. He worked for Asplundh as a tree cutter. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alfred and Amy Campbell, and maternal grandparents Sam Collins and Dorothy Hamblin.
He is survived by his mother, Norma Collins Campbell; daughters Carla Smith and husband William of Knott County and Jessica Brown and husband Stephen of Breathitt County; brother Wendis Campbell of Hazard; sisters Shirley Craig and husband Earl of Nashville, Tn. and Freeda Stacy and husband Lloyd of Hazard; two grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard on Saturday, August 7 with Rev. Merril David Collins officiating. Burial followed in the Fugate Family Cemetery located at Hazard.
